Haley – My partner Lynn and I moved to Ithaca about 2.5 years ago to choose a permanent residence build amongst like minded people. We envisioned having community and friends. Being introverts, it took us a lot longer than we had expected. And we noticed that there were no avenues in which lesbians could meet up and just talk and have fun.
Since we moved here I wanted to have a potluck for Ithacan lesbians. But it wasn’t until we met Christin that the thought came into motion. We hosted the first, of what we hope will be monthly, potluck on October 9th. 28 womyn came out and it was a great time! Read more about the 1st potluck here!
Christin – I moved to Ithaca in 2004 for graduate school. Although I knew that Ithaca was rumored to be one of the most gay-friendly places on earth, I kept looking for venues to meet other women and I kept coming up short. Sometimes living in such an open-minded place can have unintended consequences – it was when I hit on a bald straight woman at what I mistakenly thought was a dyke bar that I knew a lesbian potluck was in order.
I hope you’ll whip up an organic whole-grain dessert and come talk sexual politics, prowl for a date and enjoy 4 different versions of tofu casserole at our next gathering. For the record, the potluck is NOT strictly vegan or vegetarian, although a lot of our sisters are (hence the tofu joke…) See you soon!
